Ryan G. Powell is a film and multimedia composer who has provided music and sound work for a variety of award-winning short films, advertisements, and other projects. He is a constant collaborator with filmmaker Antonio Corsi, having worked on his Regional Student Emmy Award Winning and Broadcaster Award Winning PSA, Don’t Send The Reply. Ryan is an occasional assistant to Brooklyn based film composer Christopher North of Grammy nominated Two Trains Runnin’. He has interned at production company Q Department in 2018 and was a participant of the NYU Film Scoring Workshop 2018 where he was mentored by Mark Snow (The X-Files), and Michael Levine (Cold Case, Sirens). He has been commissioned for a variety of creative work.
Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ryan is a first-generation German immigrant, having also spent part of his childhood in Heidelberg, Germany. He is currently based in New York, where he is obtaining his Screen Scoring Master’s at NYU. He plays the tenor saxophone (jazz trained), piano, some guitar, and has done vocals on projects. Other projects that he has dabbled in include programming and designing apps, and creating short films.
Ryan’s strength lies in recognizing the subtleties of emotions and being able to express them through music and sound. He enjoys exploring the forefront of music, sound, and technology to create a unique aesthetic, giving a project what it needs to be as effective and entertaining as it possibly can be.
I had a blast writing what was one of my first ever compositions for Dr. Jensen-Abbott’s brilliant project, which is bringing together many composers from across the globe in such a creative, educational, and fun way!
